On Sunday, January 17, supporters of ex-Schema monk Sergius (Nikolai Romanov) held a prayer service in Yekaterinburg near the Church on the Blood. In several other cities, a prayer service was also held in support of the disgraced father Sergius. In Yekaterinburg, police asked worshipers to disperse, calling the prayer "an uncoordinated mass event." The conflict was avoided, since the supporters of Sergius completed the prayer, standing some distance from each other, and then dispersed.
