Baldur's Gate 3 Early Access kicks off later this year, but developers at Larian Studios already know how the role-playing relationship with companions will be built. In particular, we are talking about romantic relationships and sex. Senior game writer Adam Smith shared the information with VG 24/7.

He said that sex and romance in Baldur's Gate 3 should be more difficult than a simple reward for saying the right thing or bringing your lover a shiny trinket.

“We need jealousy,” explains Smith. “We want great joy in this too. It shouldn't be like this: “You brought me the gift that I like the most, so you got +50 affection” - there will be much more. It all depends on how you communicate with them [companions] and what you do. Each playthrough will not be like the previous one in this regard."

Adam also said that all companions can have romantic relationships not only with the main character, but also with other NPCs. He cited the non-monogamous Gityanka Liesel as an example.

“So, Liesel, she is Gityanka. And they are not really monogamous. So if you sleep with Liesel one night in the camp, then the next night you may well find her sleeping with someone else. And it will be like, “Oh, it was a little fun, wasn't it? How are you?" And you: “Just oh! You have broken my heart!".

Another complex example of a relationship is the management of vampire characters who can feed on the blood of sleeping group members due to hunger. You may need to pass a wisdom test to avoid overfeeding or killing them. In this case, conversations and relationships will take a very different path than if you just kept your fangs in your pants.

Hopefully Baldur's Gate 3 has a rocky relationship in Early Access, which will include Act 1 and five companions. The game will hit the shelves later this year on PC and Google Stadia.
