Women choose different men for short-term and long-term relationships, but the degree of difference in their choice depends on social aspects. These conclusions were reached by a group of scientists from the University of Warwick (UK), according to an article in the scientific journal Personality and Individual Differences.

When choosing a temporary partner, women are primarily attracted by the good genes of a man, which are indicated by his masculinity, external attractiveness, and so on. For long-term relationships, the fair sex is looking for men with good income and traits that show their ability to provide wealth in the family - perseverance, hard work, and so on.

Differences in choosing a potential partner depend on the socio-sexual characteristics of the woman. This was shown by a study in which women from the United States and India participated (the former are considered less sexually restricted than the latter). In an experiment, women were asked to build their ideal partners for both types of relationships. To do this, the participants were given a certain amount of "husband-dollars", which they had to "spend" on the genetic or material traits of potential companions.

As scientists expected, the model of the ideal man with whom you can enter into a long-term relationship gained more material characteristics, while the ideal of a casual or temporary life partner was built on the basis of his genetic advantages.

However, the preferences of women with limited sexuality differed little: when choosing the characteristics of men with whom they were ready to enter into a short or long-term relationship, they made similar lists. As for the less sexually restricted women, who in the experiment were represented by residents of the United States, their ideals for the two types of partners differed more significantly.

Earlier, American scientists found that women are more likely to fall in love with men who have pets. According to experts, this is due to the fact that pet owners are perceived by the ladies as very responsible. In addition, it is easier for women to identify positive qualities in a man when he plays with his four-legged friend. At the same time, the relationship between a man and a woman's dog projects onto his future attitude towards the child. At the same time, men do not often pay attention to the presence of pets in girls.
