“It’s impossible to leave, tyrants simply kill their victims,” activists from the Novosibirsk feminist group told about violence against women. According to activists, women are responsible for 90% of domestic violence. In 90% of cases, the results of domestic tyranny are blunt trauma, 5% - burns and wounds with sharp objects. The main motive for violence is not jealousy at all, but the struggle of men for dominance in the family, feminists say. This is an attempt to show who is stronger and right.

75% of women were killed while trying to leave

“The UN declarations define domestic violence: it is emotional, physical or sexual violence committed knowingly or unknowingly against family members and other household members. Most of the violence is committed by men, and they themselves suffer from this, while actively acting out on close women, says an activist named Ksenia. - Up to 45% of all serious violent crimes are committed in families. 2/3 of the premeditated murders are due to family and domestic motives. 75% of women killed by domestic tyrants were killed while trying to leave,”the woman cites the creepy figures. According to the feminist, the problem stems from childhood - many parents consider corporal punishment to be normal, and later, battered children bring this behavior into their families.

According to statistical surveys, 40% of people condemn a raped woman who made the case public. “A woman is repressed and vulnerable to a man, often not taken seriously. Believe me, there are a lot of men who consider women an application, - says Maria Rekunova, who herself experienced sexual abuse and now helps dozens of girls who have gone through the same humiliation. - Nobody is safe from sexual violence. According to statistics, every fifth woman is a victim of violence, but it seems to me that these statistics are worse. Not everyone is ready to share this, few go to the police. There is a myth that a woman is susceptible to this from strangers. In fact, women most often know their rapists. In addition to the fact that this is a loved one or a lover, she is afraid of being accused by the victim that she is supposedly to blame."

According to official data from Rosstat, more than 16 million women in Russia suffer from domestic violence every year. Laws against domestic violence are already in force in 143 countries of the world, among the member states of the Council of Europe so far only Russia and Azerbaijan have not signed the convention. An electronic petition demanding the speedy adoption of such a document was signed by about 900 thousand people. But the domestic violence bill also has opponents.

"Destroys family values, destroys the institution of the family"

Last Saturday, a picket was held at the site near the Globus Theater against the adoption of the law “On the Prevention of Domestic Violence”. The protest action was organized by the Coordination Council for the Defense of Public Morality, Culture and Traditional Family Values and the Forty Forties Movement.

According to the picketers, the bill promotes an "aggressive feminist lobby" and is not aimed at protecting women, but serves to "destroy traditional family values and destroy the institution of the family." The protesters said that the document puts men in a losing position and a priori makes them rapists.

"There are no arguments, rather emotional manipulation," feminists say about opponents of the bill.

We spoke with Ekaterina Davydova, a member of the Novosibirsk feminist group, about the new bill and the specifics of the fem movement in Novosibirsk.

- Are you often confused with homosexuals and lesbians?

- Nothing in common! To be honest, I have rarely come across such a point of view. Most people are quite knowledgeable, everything is easily googled.

- What are the feminists fighting for?

- For equal rights of women. For equal opportunities that open up. Feminism is primarily about women, it is not about men.

- How developed is the fem movement in Novosibirsk?

- In recent years, we have been talking about this more and more, more and more participants who join the feminist movement. Many topical issues are being discussed, for example, violence against women, especially against the background of the adoption of the bill that is now going to be introduced.

- Speaking about the new bill, there are also opponents. For example, the other day Orthodox activists held a picket against its adoption. What do you think about this?

- They have very weak argumentation, but what is there, there are no arguments at all, rather, emotional manipulation from the series - if you do not buy a fur coat, they will go to jail. It looks stupid and strange. From our feminist position, we have statistics, arguments, working conventions adopted in other countries.

- Are there any really working feminist projects in Novosibirsk to help a woman who has faced domestic violence? How do feminists help women in general?

- Unfortunately, we have very little financial resources to create our own separate crisis center for assistance, independent of the state. But there are such centers in other cities. Nevertheless, there are crisis centers in Novosibirsk where women can turn to, live there, psychological, medical and legal assistance is provided.

But in fact, the number of centers that exist now is very small for a million-plus city. I would like more, and more complex. Comprehensive work is very important in order to help with housing, work and health at the same time. Specialists should be united by a common idea.

- Equality must be respected in everything. And what about the retirement age? Should it be the same for men and women? Would it be fair to equalize him?

- Yes, I think it is fair to equalize, but leave it lower, because it is too high. For example, in Europe, the retirement age for men and women is the same, and rightly so. And in Russia as: women, here you are weak, go early to retire for two years. This is on the one hand. On the other hand, this is due to the institution of grandmothers, when women are not kept at work for a long time, so that they raise their grandchildren, giving their mothers the opportunity to work, because we are in trouble with kindergartens. And if there is no grandmother who will sit with the child, the woman must either hire a nanny or take her to a paid garden, but not everyone has this opportunity.

- How do you assess the position of women in Russia today?

- I think that women are not protected enough. We have many dangerous movements, for example, against abortion. Recently, in Saratov, they asked to ban private clinics from performing abortions, they are forced to surrender their licenses. Very strong attack on women's reproductive rights. But, as we know, the ban on abortion leads to a very sharp increase in crime after 18 years.
