According to him, men are more at risk of infection and more severe disease. "The reason for this phenomenon is, first of all, in the less healthy lifestyle of men and, in particular, in such bad habits as smoking and drinking alcohol," the doctor emphasized, adding that this is not only about the virus, but about all known to mankind diseases.

Malyshev emphasized that men by their natural characteristics are less resistant to unfavorable external conditions of life than women, and therefore they are more likely to get sick and die. “It is no coincidence that for every 489 girls on earth, 511 boys are born, some of whom will die relatively early. As a result, by about 40 years the number of women and men is approximately equalized,”he summed up.

At the end of April, the Ministry of Health said that males were more vulnerable to coronavirus than women, as they become infected more often. Men account for 60 percent of those infected, and women account for about 40 percent. It was noted that this rule does not apply to the severity of the disease.

Russia is in 7th place in terms of the number of infected citizens with an indicator of 165,929 people. Since the beginning of the epidemic, 1,537 people have died of complications, 21,327 have recovered. Over the past 24 hours, 10,599 new infections have been identified in the country.
