In the Dutch city of Didam, 91-year-old spouses, who had been married for 65 years, committed double euthanasia. Reported by The Telegraph.

"Nick and Tris Elderhost died surrounded by family and friends, holding hands tightly," their relatives said.

Dick Bosscher of the Dutch Voluntary Survivors Association explained that it is very rare for both spouses to simultaneously meet the requirements for euthanasia for medical reasons.

The Dutchman Mark Langeidik, who suffered from alcoholism, decided to end his torment by resorting to euthanasia. The death procedure was carried out on July 14 last year.

A law allowing people to use euthanasia if they experience "unbearable suffering" with no prospect of improvement was passed in the Netherlands 16 years ago. Last year alone, 5.5 thousand people have used it. Among those who decided on euthanasia were people who suffered from anorexia, chronic depression, hallucinations, as well as a victim of post-traumatic stress disorder, which arose after experiencing childhood sexual abuse.
