The heir to the Romanov royal dynasty, Georgy Romanov, will come to Kostroma to get engaged to Italian citizen Victoria Bettarini before the wedding. The cleric of the Epiphany-Anastasin of the Cathedral of Kostroma, Archpriest Dimitri Sazonov, announced this on his personal Facebook page.
"The rite of betrothal of the Heir to the Russian Imperial House, His Imperial Highness, Grand Duke Georgy Mikhailovich, with the hereditary noblewoman Mrs. Victoria Romanovna Bettarini will take place on January 24 at the Trinity Cathedral of the Kostroma Ipatiev Monastery," the message says.
The ceremony will be conducted by the Metropolitan of Kostroma and Nerekhta Ferapont. Before the betrothal, the prince and his chosen one will pray in the Epiphany-Anastasiin Cathedral of Kostroma in front of the Fedorovskaya icon of the Mother of God. The wedding of the descendant of the Romanovs is scheduled for fall 2021. Georgy Romanov has already visited Kostroma in 2015 and 2020.
Kostroma is considered the "cradle of the House of Romanov". In 1613, the Ipatiev Monastery in Kostroma became the place where the first tsar from the Romanov dynasty, Mikhail Fedorovich, was called to the Russian throne. The feat of the peasant Ivan Susanin is also associated with these events.
