On the eve of Defender of the Fatherland Day, the territorial body of the Federal State Statistics Service prepared data on the number of men living in the Penza region.
Anna Barysheva, head of the population and health statistics department of Penazstat, said that as of January 1, 2019, the number of men in the region was 602,795 people.
Over the course of several years, more boys than girls have been born on the territory of a constituent entity of the Federation. In 2016 - by 139 people, in 2017 - by 390, in 2018 - by 199 people.
In the Penza region, the greatest number of men over women was noted in the age group 30-34 years (by 2.7 thousand people).
Anna Barysheva noted that the older young people get, the more female population prevails among them. “The disproportion in the sex ratio is due to the high premature mortality of men and the longer life expectancy of women,” she stated.
