The Russians bought Viagra and analogues amid the coronavirus epidemic and the announcement of a large-scale quarantine in the country. Sales of such drugs in pharmacies in recent weeks have grown by 44 percent, Izvestia reports, citing data from DSM Group.

From March 9 to March 29, Russians bought 781.3 thousand packages of drugs to combat erectile dysfunction in pharmacies. For comparison, in the same period last year, their sales amounted to 544.3 thousand packages. In monetary terms, sales soared 36 percent to 749.7 million rubles. In 2019, they amounted to 549.9 million rubles.

In general, an increase in demand within the range of 15-24 percent was observed since February 10. The peak of consumer activity fell on the week from March 16 to March 22, when Russians bought Viagra 61 percent more often (in kind) than a year before.

In parallel with the sales of drugs for erectile dysfunction, the demand for condoms is also growing. According to DSM Group, from March 9 to March 15, sales of barrier contraceptives increased by 32 percent, further consumer interest in them remained.
