Last year in Russia people got married more often, and there were fewer divorces in the country, RIAMO reports.
"Rosstat data on the number of marriages and divorces in 2019 turned out to be unexpectedly optimistic," the material says.
According to statistics, last year 917 thousand couples officially formalized relations in Russia, which is 24 thousand more than the figure that was two years ago.
The number of divorces decreased in 2019 to 528 thousand, which is 56 thousand less than a year ago.
The largest number of marriages is among young people aged 25-29. The decrease in the number of divorces is explained by the fact that the number of civil marriages in Russia is growing, therefore, there are fewer divorces, and besides, many people decide to divorce only a year, five, or 20 years after marriage.
The leader in registered marriages among the regions of Russia is Moscow. In 2019, 79.5 thousand marriages were registered in the capital, which is 4 thousand more than a year earlier, and divorces dropped to 42.49 thousand.
In second place is the Moscow region, where 54.4 thousand unions were concluded, but in the Moscow region the number of divorces increased to 32.6 thousand cases.
