Long-term relationships are killing women’s sex drive, scientists from Finland said. Their new research suggests that within seven years of marriage, female attraction begins to decline, writes International Business Time.

A change in marital status, that is, marriage, affects various sexual functions of a person. However, the decline in libido after many years of married life has become a pronounced trend, scientists say. It is noted that previous research on women's sexuality has rarely focused on how this part of their lives changes over time.

The study lasted seven years and was attended by about two thousand women. The main attention of scientists was paid to three factors: sexual desire (attraction) and satisfaction, as well as orgasm.

One of the first conclusions of scientists was that most of these aspects have not been stable over the years. Orgasm turned out to be the most stable: most women experience it regularly, regardless of the number of years they have lived with the same man.

At the same time, sexual satisfaction changes significantly over time, usually not for the better. Hence, scientists have made the assumption that satisfaction and orgasm are not always related.

However, the main conclusion reached by Finnish scientists is that long-term relationships and the presence of marital status lead to a decrease in sex drive. Those women who maintained a monogamous relationship from the very beginning to the end of the study reported the largest decrease in libido. Women who had new partners during the study also experienced a decline in sexual desire, but to a lesser extent. Single women have shown stability - their sexual desire has not undergone any changes over the entire period of research.

To understand the essence of all these changes in the sexual life of women, more research is needed, the scientists emphasize. Nevertheless, they believe that this largely psycho-behavioral factor should already be taken into account by specialists who are involved in the treatment of female sexual dysfunction.
